Bristol County Modular Building Release Search

To find someone released from the Bristol County Modular Building, first determine whether the person left the building or left Bristol County Sheriff’s Office custody as a whole. The unit serves sentenced people within the Dartmouth campus, and a move can reflect reclassification, a change of building, court transport, transfer to another authority, or true discharge. The Bristol County Modular Building has no separate public release list or records office. Confirmation comes from BCSO, the court that owns the sentence, and any receiving agency named in the custody path.

Bristol Modular Building Release Paths

The Bristol County Modular Building is part of the sheriff-operated Dartmouth campus. BCSO describes it as a unit for sentenced people who have advanced through classification into treatment, prerelease, or work-crew opportunities. The word “prerelease” describes a program stage. It is not proof that a person has been discharged, and it does not turn the building into a separate release authority.

A person can leave the Modular Building and remain in BCSO custody. Possible next steps include an internal Dartmouth move, return to another security unit, court movement, a transfer to MA DOC or another criminal-justice agency, probation or parole, and release to the community after lawful completion of the county sentence. The release record must identify the destination or new legal status, not merely show that the person left this building.

The official BCSO facilities page describes the Modular Unit and the rest of the Dartmouth custodial complex.

Confirm Modular Building Releases

Begin with the sentence and court docket, then confirm the physical custody status through BCSO. The docket can show the imposed term, jail credit, probation order, later disposition, or other authority that affects release. It may not show the exact time a person left the building because the sheriff still controls internal movement and the custody transaction.

  1. Collect the full name, approximate dates, sentencing court, docket number, and the Modular Building as the last known unit.
  2. Search MassCourts for the owning criminal docket and read the chronological entries, sentence, credits, and supervision terms.
  3. Call BCSO at 508-995-6400 and name the Modular Building when asking whether the person remains anywhere in county custody.
  4. If BCSO or the docket identifies a transfer, search the receiving system, such as MA DOC/VINELink, another sheriff, BOP, or ICE.
  5. For durable proof, obtain the subject’s authorized record or request the specific segregable fields that the custodian may lawfully release.
Important: “No longer in the Modular Building” is not the same finding as “released from BCSO custody to the community.”

The complete county, court, state, federal, and immigration verification chain is available through the Bristol County released inmate search.

Note: Massachusetts VINE covers MA DOC only, so a Modular Building stay will not appear unless a later transfer enters state custody.

Bristol Modular Release Record Fields

A useful Modular Building record connects the unit movement to the larger BCSO custody episode. The exact release date and time matter, but the release or movement code and destination are just as important. Massachusetts can classify transfer to another authority, a warrant, another sentence, probation, parole, home confinement, and other outcomes as release events in an administrative system.

FieldQuestion answered
Name and agency identifierWas the record matched to the correct person?
Admission and booking numberWhich BCSO custody episode does the movement close?
Facility or unitWas the person in the Modular Building or another Dartmouth unit?
Court and docketWhich judicial order or sentence controlled custody?
Actual release date and timeWhen did the physical BCSO transaction occur?
Release or transfer codeWas it discharge, supervision, warrant, or agency transfer?
DestinationDid the person enter the community, another unit, or another custodian?

These fields form a request inventory, not a promise of public disclosure. BCSO states that identifiable incarceration and release information is CORI. A person seeking their own history should use the authorized personal CORI route. A general requester should expect protected fields to be denied or redacted.

Modular Building Records and Contact

The Modular Building shares the Dartmouth campus address, main BCSO phone, and records authority. It does not have a separate public release desk. Call ahead because the official state facility listing gives administrative hours rather than a guarantee that a records employee or specific unit contact will be available.

Why Modular Movement Is Not Release

The Dartmouth campus has real distinctions within one custody system. Massachusetts DPH separately inspects the main House of Correction and Jail, the Women’s Center, and the Modular Building. BCSO also describes their functions separately. Those facts justify naming the unit, yet they do not create separate legal custodians. A move across the campus can close a unit assignment while the person remains in BCSO custody.

The Massachusetts correctional facility inspection list carries separate Bristol entries, including the Modular Building.

The inspection distinction confirms the building’s identity, while BCSO and the court remain the authorities for custody and release.

A caller should state “Modular Building” and ask whether the person remains anywhere on the Dartmouth campus. If the answer is no, the next question is whether BCSO released the person to the community or transferred the person to another authority. Only that second answer completes the custody path.

Bristol Modular Building Function

BCSO describes a 400-bed Modular Unit serving sentenced people who have progressed through classification into treatment, prerelease, or work-crew opportunities. It is a county custodial unit, not a state prison. MA DOC operates state facilities elsewhere, and its VINELink route should not be used to search a person who remained solely in the Bristol county system.

“Prerelease” also does not state a date. Sentence completion can require the court term, pretrial credit, earned credits, later orders, and the actual BCSO transaction. A projected event remains different from an actual release. For a person moved to the main Dartmouth complex, the Bristol County House of Correction and Jail remains under the same sheriff authority.

No Modular Release Feed

BCSO publishes no named current roster, Modular Building exit list, 24-hour release feed, 72-hour archive, or public booking-photo feed. Its homepage shows dated aggregate counts, including a “Not In Custody” figure, but those totals contain no names, booking numbers, dates, reasons, or destinations. A change in a number cannot identify a Modular Building release.

The BCSO homepage illustrates the aggregate-only display.

Aggregate BCSO counts that are not a Bristol Modular Building release list

The public count is operational context, not evidence that any named person left the Modular Building or the wider county system.

For a past sentence, the court docket usually lasts longer than a live locator. Obtain a certified court record when official proof is needed, then pair it with authorized custody data if the physical date or destination matters. Respect a sealed, expunged, impounded, juvenile, or otherwise restricted result.

Note: A missing online name may reflect nonparticipation or access limits rather than release, transfer, or the absence of a record.

Historic Bristol ICE Release Transfers

Bristol’s former ICE operation is historical. ICE ended the county contract on May 20, 2021 and transferred the detainees to Plymouth County. The former C. Carlos Carreiro facility must not be treated as a current Modular Building release destination or as an active county detention site.

An older record marked “release to immigration” documents a transfer from one custodian to another. It does not establish return to the community. Modern checks belong in ICE’s Online Detainee Locator System, which covers current detainees and certain people released from ICE custody within a recent limited period. A no-result cannot prove release or removal. The destination and date in the older BCSO record remain essential.

Modular Property After Release

BCSO handles property across the Dartmouth system. Property pickup or exchange is by weekday appointment, clothing exchanges are centralized at Dartmouth, and no weekend or holiday exchange is offered. Unclaimed personal property is disposed of 30 days after release. Call 508-995-6400 extension 2411 promptly and identify the Modular Building as the last known unit.

Original incoming legal or privileged papers are stored securely and provided at discharge or earlier through written authorization. Property pickup and document return are separate from the release record. A scheduled pickup may follow a transfer or true discharge, so it should not be used alone as proof that the person entered the community.
